As most of you who are regular readers to the blog know, the kiddos elementary school does an award every month call "The Good Citizen" Award. Basically what it sums up to be is the best student you can be--behavior and grades. Well, on the way home last Thursday, Braden's teacher stops him on the way out the door to ask him a question. So, once we get out the door I asked what was that about. He then says, "Oh I got Good Citizen" this month. I replied with the usual...what, really, I'm so proud. Well, we get in the car and Lexie said "Oh yeah, by the way, I got "Good Citizen" this month too. I immediately thought...wait! This can not possibly happen. Last year when I needed them to be in the same day (due to the fact that I worked 40 minutes away) I couldn't buy them Good Citizen together. This year within the first 7 days of me being back at HES, they get Good Citizen in the same month. I couldn't believe it. I honestly thought it was a conspiracy between their teachers. They informed it wasn't. Both picked by necessity, but together was sheer accidental. I was amazed, 2 Good Citizens.

And for the record those who noticed my 2 month hiatus, I'm back on track. Good Citizen Awards Ceremony September 8 @ 8:30. My blog post a measly 13 hours later. I am so good. Well, not really, just had some free time and decided to do it.

Birthday Party

Isn't it fun to attend a birthday party where it is something different to do? Well we went to a friend of Lexie's (Rachael's) birthday party and they were told to wear their swimsuit. We go there and found a blow-up slip-n-slide. It looked so fun and to be honest with you, if I would have had my swimsuit, I would've been on it. The kids were pooped after this party.

At CRBC we had a Send'em Back to School Celebration. The kids had a blast. There were 3 blow-up slides, games, pizza & hotdogs, and fireworks. What better way to end the summer?

Meet the teacher

Sunday August 8th was Meet the Teacher at HES. We already new who our teachers were. Mrs. Simpson is Braden's kindergarten teacher and is amazing. Mrs. Decker is Lexie's 3rd grade teacher and is wonderful! We were so happy to find out who our teachers were. On that day we also took all our supplies...which was quite a bit of them.

CRBC Children's Camp

Camp was at Hargis Retreat again this year. It was bittersweet. We had a great time, but we were all sad because it was Jay and Pam's last camp to be in charge. We did many science experiments and had a ketchup and mustard war (no pics from that-sorry didn't want to ruin the camera).

Allison and I took the kids to Aldridge Gardens at the beginning of the summer just to have something to do one day. It was a pretty day, I took some good pics and we enjoyed the music from someone's wedding reception.

Braden got very obsessed with basketball after riding to school with Marcy. Her son Ethan plays basketball and Braden would go out with him every afternoon and shoot hoops. That's when we decided to get a goal. We got a goal from Mr. Bobby and the kids love it!!! Thanks Mr. Bobby for the Sunkist basketball goal.

Tuesday I fixed gumbo for dinner...Brandon and Braden loved it. Brandon just had one request, "Please cut the chicken pieces smaller". From that this conversation emerged.

Braden: "I don't know what you are talking, my chicken was small."

My baby girl, whom I've always has said is wise beyond her years or too smart for her own good, proved it this month. When Alabama children hit 2nd grade, they are put through a screening to see if they are gifted. Lexie went through this screening and it was determined that she is indeed gifted. Brandon and I are so proud. I guess when she does something totally off the wall now we can blame it on the fact that she's gifted and has now walking around sense. Just kidding, but sometimes I wonder if she really is paying attention.

Oh and for those inquiring minds that want to know, her I.Q. was 138. I know...wow.

It's Home...

for a short while anyway. We got the Mustang home today and Brandon is thrilled. He picked it up this evening. His first stop was by the other mechanic, the one who will put new tires and the exhaust on it. Then it should be permanently home. We couldn't be happier. I'm just glad to see him happy and not stressed about this. I thought that I would share my joy with you!!!

The Easter Drama for the Children's Dept and Youth Drama was together this year. We used the song "Lord You're Holy" by Karen Wheaton. It was amazing. Lexie had a solo signing and Braden was a sign carrier. It was such a blessing to see my kiddos worshipping God. It touches my heart!!!

Well we had a wonderful Easter...the Easter bunny came and left a little in each basket this year. We had a drama at church that involved the children, Youth and Choir. It turned out great. And then we went to Nana and PopPop's to hunt eggs. Too much fun for one day!!! But most importantly we celebrated the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. Thank you Jesus for dying for my sins so that I may live!!!

Girls Trip

Monday I left for a short getaway trip to Atlanta, GA. Let me tell you, I had a wonderful time...from shopping to laughing the ride was worth it. I went with Jenny and Allison and it was just the best. Our first stop was Atlantic Station. Where we went into H&M, West Elm and at at Doc Green's. From there we went to IKEA (insert the Angels singing Hallelujah and sparkling dust). That was amazing. Then we ate at Murphy's, quick trip to Target to get blister guards and it was off to bed to be ready for the next day. Day 2 came with a vengence...up, ready and down to breakfast. We left the hotel (Bye Embassy Suites...your beds were comfy and the full breakfast was great). We started our Day 2 adventure by going to the Centennial Park, and touring a little of downtown. We left downtown and went to Lenox Square where we shopped at Crate & Barrel (good thing we don't have one of those here or I would have no money), Bloomingdales (where I had to get my brown bag and we came in by the MEN'S underwear that had cars on them), and Neiman Marcus. From there we went to Phipps Plaza. We went into Nordstrom, Jimmy Choo (AAAAHHHHH), Tiffany & Co. (Holy Moses is all I can say) and United Colors of Benetton. Here are a few pics.

We shopped and walked and I have to blisters to prove it! Don't worry the pain was totally worth it!

The Wizard of Oz

So last night was a marvelous girl's night. I picked up tickets for the Wizard of Oz over a month ago. Allison, Jenny and I went out for dinner and to see the show. Allison picked our restaurant (she is just the best at this). We went to Ocean in Five Points. It was absolutely delicious. I had the pan seared scallops, with mashed potatoes, ratatouille and the "ocean" salad. The salad was a Greek style salad that had fried feta cheese (yumyum). Then we left to go to the show...which was wonderful. I have been addicted to the Wizard of Oz since I was a little girl. I did splurge on a shirt. All in all it we had a great time.

I can tell you how I forget...I have a full-time job, I have a husband and I have 2 kids (under the age of 10). That leaves very little time for me to have a brain to remember the things that actually have to do with me. Like: Hey my future sis-in-love (I hate sister-in-law, it's so negative sounding) sent me this really cool shirt a couple of weekends ago. I got home from working with mom and there was this little box in the mailbox for me. Just me. Yes it did have a sweet message to my kiddos on it, but it was mine. Yes, I really like presents. Anyway I opened it and to my surprise it was this shirt. Specifically for my Dustin! I just had to share.

Well...I knew the day was coming. Brandon has been talking about a Ford F-250 for about 3 years now. We finally bit the bullet and bought one used....this week. We found one for sale in Bessemer. Brandon put his truck for sale and it literally 2 days. We bought the truck on Tuesday. Will post pictures tonight.

I am so honored and proud to have my brother fighting for our country. As most of you know, he is a hospital corpman with the United States Navy, being a corpman means that he works as a first responder to the Marines. He is now stationed on the USS Nassau. Last week he was pinned with his FMF (Fleet Marine Force).

This kids mainly road the 4-wheeler in the snow on Friday. We got out Saturday morning, with the sun out, and actually played in it. They built their own snowman. I know that some of you who are regular blog readers are disappointed that we didn't have a 7 ft. snowman again this year, but we just couldn't. They had a blast.

We went to the circus the year. It was great. Lexie loved watching the contortionists. She couldn't believe that 3 girls could fit into a box the size of a chair. Braden's favorite part was the iron sphere with the motorcycles. He was amazed at 7 motors inside of it. We had a wonderful time and they are wanting to go back again next year.

Braden's class was talking about the circus today. And everyone in the class was magically transformed into a clown. It was great until we started washing it off and the red didn't want to come off of his nose. Then I couldn't tell if his nose was red from the paint left on there or because I had scrubbed so hard to get it off. I think he'll be okay. He did keep asking why his nose was still red (2 hours later). Whoops!!!

Ok, so it's official...Dustin has deployed overseas. He is stationed to the USS Nassau and we really don't know where he will go. I think that he will not be stationed in any particular place. We know a few places that he has been told that they will go, but it's not definite. He left today @ 10:30. He told my dad that he was standing on the beach in Virginia waiting on the hovercraft to come and pick them up. Then they go to the ship...the hovercraft pulls into the ship. I thought that sounded pretty cool.

So, if you have a spare moment say a prayer for him and us as well. Thanks with love!!!

Lexie's 8th birthday party was a sock hop. We had the best time. A few people came...the frigid temps and having it at the house kept us from inviting a ton of people. The kids loved the details that were put into the party...record centerpieces (made by me of course), french fries, floats (Coke, RootBeer & Grapico) and cake of course. They learned the hand jive and had a blast doing "The Twist". She got some great gifts and had a great time. Valeria did a great job (again of course) on the cake.

My New Year's Resolution

My only resolution is to be a better blogger again in 2010. I am starting a fresh start. As I posted before, we were sick for Christmas so there weren't many pics. So, what I've decided is to have a fresh start...to start from this point.

Last Monday (the 4th) Lexie turned 8. I can't believe it...where has the time gone. So, we celebrated with Nana, Pop and Uncle Dustin Sunday before he left. We had chili at the house and the kids played the Wii so that he could watch. Then on Friday night we had her party...I'll post pics this evening I promise. Scouts honor...pinky promise...I swear. Basically whatever works for you.

I've made a resolution...try to be a better blogger. I need to upload pics from Christmas, but there are so few of them. The kids were sick with the stomach but Dec. 22nd. So do the math, 72 hours later...I got sick at 12:30 Christmas morning and Brandon was about 8 hours later. The kids got their gifts and I took about 3 pics. Then later that evening I took a few more. I do have a few pics from Dustin being here. He left this morning and I hate to see him go. Say a special prayer...he will be back in LeJune, NC until the 18th then he deploys.

I just realized that I haven't shared anything that has really happened to us over the summer. Let me take you back to May. I got pink-slipped at HES, which was an emotional blow. I totally wasn't expecting that. It made for a really stressful summer...we didn't know where money was going to come from. The kids started back to school on a Wed., that night I got a call from the board offering me a job @ Burkett Center for the Multi-Handicapped. The conversation consisted of asking if I wanted to the job and I immediately said yes. I was extremely nervous not knowing what to expect...these kids are severely special ed. I love my job. There are positives and negatives just like any job, but these kids can be really loving. And the ladies that I work with are incredible. All I can say is that GOD IS SOOOO GOOD!!! I know that he made that job available to me.

'With all that said, I have a few prayer requests...1) Pray that God gives me some direction in going back to school. 2) My brother has changed duty stations in the Navy...he is now stationed in N.C. and will deploy in Jan. Please pray for his safety and the safety of the others he will be with. He will not be in Iraq or Afghanistan, he will be on the USS Nassau. 3) When praying for Dustin, pray for the rest of the men and women fighting for our country...they are fighting for us. 4) Lastly...for our country (enough said).

We stayed in Gulf Shores and Braden and Lexie had a ball playing in the sand. They also met some friends while we were staying there. Mattie and Connor, from Little Rock, Arkansas, were they beach buddies for 2 days. They built castles and buried Lexie.

Naval Aviation Museum

When we were in Pensacola, we visited the Naval Aviation Museum that is on the Naval Base. It was a blast...the kids loved it more than I thought they would. The were able to see old and new planes, sit in the cockpit of the Blue Angels (the old ones of course) and look at different memorabilia. Then as we were touring the outside planes, we were able to see the Blue Angels and Fat Albert Jr. (the huge plane with the Angels) take off to go to an airshow. Braden thought that was awesome.

We went to the Bass Pro Shop just to play on a Saturday. They were having a free workshop for the kiddos to learn how to shoot a bow and arrow. Lexie hit the vitals in her second shot, Braden not so much. He was able to pull the string back by himself.

The "Sexy Beast"

Okay, about 2 weeks ago, here is the conversation...
Mom: "You need to go without you shirt when you play outside at Kristen's."
Braden: "Why?" (the most popular toddler question ever)
Mom: "Because you arms are so dark and your belly is glowing white."
Braden: "I taint" (I can't)
Mom: "Yes you can, and Kristen might call you a sexy beast if you do."
Braden: "Ha, no."
That was the end of the discussion or so I thought. About 5 days later, I was changing clothes and was down to the undergarments when Braden walked into the bedroom. That is when he proceeded to say: "Look at dat sessy(sexy) beast!" Well, it only gets worse. I let a young friend of ours come use the tanning bed before her senior banquet last week. Katie is getting out of the tanning bed and he tells her: "Dat's a sessy beast right derw(there)!" Are you kidding me? One little slip of a slighty funny saying and he uses it. In the right context! God bless me, I'm going to have my hands full!

Well, I noticed that it had been awhile since I last blogged. So here are a few things that have happened (will post pics later). Braden apparently can fall asleep in any position. He literally fell asleep trying to get on the couch. Lexie lost one of her front teeth, so Brandon is constantly calling her snaggle. Community Easter Egg Hunt

Ok, so I'm a little late with most of the things on this post, but at least I'm getting them on here. Our wonderful friends Cliff and Tammy hosted an Easter Egg Hunt for the kids in the neighborhood. With the long weekend, cold weather and ball games going on we didn't have a great turn-out. But, we had a wonderful time.

Braden turned 4!

April 10th Braden turned 4. Wow, I really can't believe that he is that old. We got him a Razor scooter and the movie Horton Hears a Who. He wanted to go to Habaneros for dinner. So, Nana & Pop, Gindin & Susan and the rest of us went. He did not like it when they sang to him and I ended up wearing the sombrero.

Lexie had a field trip to the McWane Center on the 10th. We had to other girls in our group and had a blast. Although, it was extremely crowded!!!

Apparently the Easter Bunny comes by 2:30 a.m. in our house. Lexie came through the house at 2:30 Sunday morning and cut our bedroom light on to let us know that the Easter Bunny came. We told her to go back to bed. So, she looked at her basket and went back to sleep. The pics were from when they finally woke up. Braden got a Froggy book and try to shove it in Lexie's basket. I asked why. He said "I don't like fwogs."

Time sure flies when you're having fun. Well, I guess all of this has been fun. Braden turned 4 today at 11:12 a.m. I just can't believe that my baby is 4...I guess he's not a baby anymore. He's such a big boy!

Weekend

Well, we had a very eventful weekend. I got to go to Wicked, thanks to my BFF (haha), Allison. That was last Friday, and it was absolutely amazing. I would go back in a heartbeat. Then we had our Easter Drama and it went great. We had 350 people come and 14 of those were saved. That is wonderful. I have pics from Lexie's field trip to McWane that I will get on her later. Something to ponder...my baby will be 4 on Friday. Where has the time gone?

With the help of our neighbors, Brian, Stephanie and Harrison Phillips, we made 2 huge snowmen! The biggest snowman was taller than Brandon. It took a lot of effort to get snowman 7ft tall. After all the snow had fallen we ended up getting about 5 inches.

I didn't find that part too amusing.

Tuesday night Braden got in trouble for having a horrible attitude.
Brandon: Go tell mom your sorry, now.
Braden: I'm sowwy.
Brandon: Sorry for what?
Braden: For bein a little butt-hole.

Today as Braden is pooping on the potty, he makes a discovery.
Braden: Mom, look there is a clock on the floor.
Mom: No buddy, that's a scale.
Braden: Oh, that tells you how old your feet is.
Mom: (as I snicker) No it tells you how much you weigh.
Braden: Yeah, that's what I said.

Thursday we realized that the shower in the master bath was leaking for the 5th time in 4 years. Talk about frustrating. So Saturday, out everything comes. And this is the loveliness that we now get to look at. Do you know how difficult it is to go from a 4x4 shower to a tub and shower unit? There is no room and everytime that you move that dreaded curtain sticks to you like plaster. And do I need to mention the fact that I get indirect light in there or that I can't take my usual 15 minute scalding hot shower? Why you ask? The steam builds up and actually makes water run down the walls...not good for the paint. I'm just so ready for this to be over!!!

Saturday after all the birthday festivities were over went went to the UAB Girls Basketball game. HES was competing for money to buy new books. We did pretty good. We won the spirit award and the writing contest...we will find out later if we won the shoot-off.
